Living in the countryside, we spend our fair weather days invariably outdoors, tending our fledgling potager, down at our boys’ treehouse, den-building or playing ball games on the lawn. Rainy days are spent either in the kitchen, trying out new recipes together, or at the table, crafting and creating with paint, glitter, fabrics and clay. Our home is rarely tidy and never pristine.
During school hours when the house is too quiet and I’m missing our two and their chatter during the day, I try to use the time between school runs to pull out my brushes and oils. I don’t get very far very quickly – am much more content being round-the-clock mummy first. These pages serve as a well-used home cookbook filled with favourite seasonal bakes and treats.
